‘You fought in The War of The Savages? You’re the Bridgebreaker?’ Ika gasped with eyes sparkling with amazement. His uncle, being quiet and calm as always, glared at the dark soil walls for a moment, then uttering a dreary sigh. ‘I used to be, lad. I once was Ky of The Emerald City, the son of the Rogue and the Saviour of Zoth’s Army. I’m the one who made the Savage Bridge shatter, accompanied by, well, your father.’ Again the battered black jaguar let out a deep growl. ‘But I don’t care what people call me nowadays. Having so much titles does not repay the death of my brother, nor the horrors the war brought.’ For a moment, Ika looked into his uncles eyes. He wondered what the battlefield was like, though he doubted it was as adventurous and exciting as his in his imagination. His uncle looked so tired, so ill. Not like a hero or something alike. ‘Ika, dear lad, when the we won the war, I got dismissed. I settled down with your grandmother in The Panthera Capital, ‘till she passed away peacefully. Year after year I asked myself the same question again and again: was it worth it? Was Zoth’s victory worth the death of hundreds of innocent cats? Was it worth the destruction, the bloodshed? On the day your grandmother died, I finally found the answer. You see, when someone dies, their bodies make a final move. Believe it or not, but this final move often resembles the action one’s life was dedicated to. A moment before the spirit of your grandmother vanished into the Promised Land, I could experience my mother’s life in a single breath. The only thing I saw and felt was her sorrow. The sorrow caused by the loss of her loved ones. The death of her parents - who both fought against the Demons of The Old -, the death of her mate - who died in battle - and the death of her two cubs, both slaughtered by Smilodons. Her life was nothing but sorrow and pain, even though she never fought in battle herself. War is no glorious or heroic at all. It’s a curse!’ Ky bared his old yellow teeth, and spend a time looking at his paws for a moment. His nephew shook his scruffy head, pinching his glowing green eyes. This whole war thing... it made him mad! Why did cats like that exist? ‘W-well.. Stone or... Rock or whatever they called him has to pay for his actions! He’s a monster! An animal! A savage demon.’ ‘Oh, kid, you don’t really understand. In war, everyone’s an animal.’
